Abstract

The Rangers Bee Farmers’ Group in Lubuk Gilang Village, Air Periukan District, Seluma Regency, has potential bee products in the form of bee pollen that have not yet been optimally utilized. The main problems faced by the partner are the high moisture content of fresh bee pollen, its short shelf life, and limited drying technology. This community service activity aimed to improve the partner’s capacity in postharvest bee pollen processing through the application of an environmentally friendly solar energy-based dryer designed according to the group’s needs. The activities were carried out through socialization, introduction and demonstration of the equipment, and training in the drying process. The solar energy-based dryer was designed to increase drying capacity compared with the electric oven previously used by the partner while reducing dependence on electrical energy. The results showed that the application of solar drying technology could help the partner process bee pollen more effectively and systematically, producing dried bee pollen with a target moisture content of less than 8%, making it more suitable for packaging and marketing. This activity also represents an initial step toward increasing the added value of bee products, extending shelf life, and creating opportunities for business diversification for the Rangers Bee Farmers’ Group. The application of renewable energy-based appropriate technology is expected to support the sustainable development of the bee pollen business and strengthen the economic independence of the local community.
