Abstract

Plastic waste has become one of the major environmental issues, contributing to environmental degradation and disrupting drainage systems, thereby increasing the risk of waterlogging and flooding. This condition also occurs in Kepenuhan Timur Village, Kepenuhan District, Rokan Hulu Regency, highlighting the need for community education through the implementation of the Collect–Transport–Utilize (CTU) Method, locally known as the Pungut–Angkut–Manfaat (PAM) Method. This community service program aimed to enhance community knowledge, awareness, and participation in plastic waste management to maintain clean drainage systems. The program employed a Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach, consisting of field observation, socialization, demonstrations, group discussions, and questionnaire-based evaluation involving 50 participants. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants' understanding of the relationship between plastic waste disposal and flooding, increased awareness of shared environmental responsibility, and stronger commitment to avoiding improper waste disposal and participating regularly in PAM activities. Therefore, the implementation of the PAM Method proved to be a practical and community-friendly approach that effectively promotes environmental awareness and supports sustainable community-based plastic waste management.
