Abstrak

The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the role of Civics teachers in internalizing Pancasila as the nation’s view of life for strengthening the democratic character of student in class VII. (2) to find out the obstacles faced by Civics teachers in internalizing Pancasila as the nation’s view of life to strengthen democratic character in students in class VII. (3) to find out the effect of internalizing Pancasila as the nation’s view of life on strengthening democratic character in students in class VII.

This research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta. The research subjects were school principal, vice principal, civics teacher in class VII and students in class VII. Source of data was to use primary data sources and secondary data sources. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity test was carried out using technicaltriangulation and source triangulation. The research data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive analysis technique with an interactive model.

The results of the study could be concluded that: 1) civics teachers had an active role in the internalization program of Pancasila as the nation’s view of life for strengthening democratic character. This active role was realized through several interesting new cultural aspects at school such as: Democrazy Day/ election for Student Council Chair (OSIS), Menstrual Cards, Kultum and Rotating Adzan. In addition, civics teachers also had roles as directors, supervisors, and coaches in its implementation, (2) the obstacles faced by teachers in the process of internalizing the Pancasila program as the nation’s view able to fully adapt to a new environment. This was because it was still in a transitional period, (3) the internalization of Pancasila as the nation’s view of life was truly able to strengthen the democratic character of students.
