REPRESENTATION OF ISLAMOPHOBIA IN BOLLYWOOD MOVIE MY NAME IS KHAN (ROLAND BARTHES SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS)

The purpose of this study is to describe the existence of Islamophobic symbols in the film My Name Is Khan and the meanings contained in the symbols in the film, especially those related to Islamophobia. This study uses the theory of semiotic analysis from Roland Barthes. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique in this study is to use the documentation method. The data analysis technique uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis technique, namely denotation, connotation and myth. The data analysis process is in the form of symbols in the film My Name is Khan which includes: data selection, data presentation and data verification using guidelines on the Roland Barthes analysis tool. The results of the study show that seven scenes depict Islamophobia, such as: assault (beating, pulling the hijab, throwing harsh words), intimidation (behavior that causes a person to feel afraid or experience something dangerous), continuous comments or statements in the public who belittles Islam (insulting Islam in front of many people). The scenes contained in the film My Name is Khan, have implications that the audience can imitate the Islamophobic scenes in the film and do it to other people around them.
