The Indonesian Embassy's Protective Diplomacy in Handling Sexual Violence against Female PMIs in Malaysia
Abstract
Indonesian Migrant Workers or abbreviated as PMI are workers from Indonesia who work abroad. Malaysia as the main destination country for PMIs has more access to employ workers from Indonesia. The large number of PMIs in Malaysia also causes the high level of violence that occurs in Malaysia, one of which is the case of sexual violence against female PMI in Malaysia. This is a particular concern regarding efforts to protect PMI's human security through protective diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia. In this research, the author wants to see about the role of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in handling cases of sexual violence against female PMIs in Malaysia. The research method used is literature review examining data from the official website, trusted news, and previous research. This research found that the Indonesian Embassy had overseen cases of sexual violence against female PMIs in Malaysia by carrying out diplomatic efforts with related parties to uphold the human security of PMI women in Malaysia, both during the trial period and up to the return of PMI women victims of sexual violence in Malaysia. The Indonesian Embassy undertakes diplomatic protection for the human security of PMI women victims of sexual violence in Malaysia which is manifested in three protections, namely legal protection, technical protection, and political protection
