This study aims to improve the descriptive text writing ability of seventh-grade students at SMP 1 Bogorejo through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategy. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 32 students of grade VII. Data were collected using writing tests, observation sheets, and field notes. The results showed an improvement in students’ average scores from 61.25 in the pre-cycle to 70.94 in cycle I and 80.31 in cycle II. The percentage of learning mastery also increased from 28% (pre-cycle) to 56% (cycle I) and 87.5% (cycle II). These findings demonstrate that the PBL strategy is effective in enhancing students’ descriptive text writing skills and in fostering their active participation during the learning process.
