THE EFFORTS TO OVERCOME STUDENTS' LOW SELF-CONFIDENCE THROUGH INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING USING RATIONAL TECHNIQUES EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY AT SMP NEGERI 2 PAMEKASAN PROHIBITION

Abstract. This research aims to assist students experiencing low self-esteem, a feeling of inferiority caused by perceived differences in physical, psychological, or material aspects compared to others. Negative and irrational thoughts are the primary contributors to this low self-esteem. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) was applied as the counseling technique to address this issue. The study involved three students from SMPN 2 Larangan who faced low self-esteem. The study used the Guidance and Counseling Action Research (PTBK) method, carried out in three cycles. In the first cycle, the counselees began to express their issues but still showed a lack of confidence. After the first cycle, their learning outcomes showed improvement. In the second cycle, REBT was combined with motivational videos and the ABCDE method, leading to an increase in enthusiasm and student participation. By the third cycle, the students demonstrated significant progress in their social behavior and psychological development. The results show that REBT is effective in transforming negative and irrational thoughts into positive and rational ones, contributing to an improvement in self-confidence, academic performance, and social interactions. Therefore, REBT counseling services can help students overcome feelings of inferiority and enhance their quality of life.
