Abstract

 

This classroom action research intends to improve the ability in writing story through mind mapping method of the 4th grade students of SDN Sondakan No.11 Surakarta on academic year 2012/2013. The variable that becomes the changing goal in this study is the ability in writing story, while its action variable is mind mapping method.

The research model used by the writer is classroom action research conducted in three cycles. Every cycle

had four steps, it is planning, action, observation, and reflection. Thirty eight students and the teacher of class 4th SDN Sondakan No.11 Surakarta were the research subjects. Interviewing, testing, observation, and documentation are used as the technique of collecting data. The data analisis technique applied was interactive analysis model with the qualitative descriptive technique, involving, three components, they are data reduction, data presentation, and verification.

Based result study, it can be said that there is an ability improvement to write story after implementing the classroom action research with mind mapping method. It is shown through the increasing of the students ability both in pre or post action. In the first cycle, there is an ability improvement in writing story in the amount of  68,84 as the average mark and the students percentage who reach the KKM is 63,16% (24 students). In the second cycle there is also an ability improvement to write story in the number 76,61 on the average mark, and the students percentage reaching the KKM is 89,47% (34 students). Therefore it can be recommended that the use of mind mapping method
