The decline in harvested area and rice production in Bengkulu City during the 2021–2024 period poses serious challenges to the household food security of rice farming families. Under these conditions, the role of housewives as the main managers of household food becomes a key factor in building household food security. This study aims to (1) analyze the behavior of housewives in rice farming households in building household food security in Bengkulu City, and (2) analyze the factors influencing the behavior of housewives in rice farming households in building household food security in Bengkulu City.
The respondents of this study consisted of 86 housewives from rice farming households in Bengkulu City, selected using a simple random sampling method. Data were analyzed descriptively to examine the behavior of housewives and using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test the effects of attitude (X1), subjective norms (X2), and perceived behavioral control (X3) on the behavior of housewives in building household food security (Y). The results showed that the behavior of housewives falls into a highly supportive category. Attitude and subjective norms have a significant effect on behavior, while perceived behavioral control does not have a significant effect. These findings highlight that positive attitudes and social support from husbands, neighbors, and farmer groups are the main factors in managing household food security.
